Interest Groups

Participation in the following interest groups are open to Williamson County Newcomers Club members in good standing. Prospective members may participate in two activities before paying annual dues. If you would like information on any of these activities, please send an email to WCNCinformation@gmail.com.  The monthly newsletter gives the details for the activities scheduled for the next month.

BOOK SWAP

We very much appreciate our members who donate books for us to sell, and those who purchase the books for the benefit of the Club, at the bargain prices of $1 for hardcover books and $0.50 for paperbacks! Our group organizes the books and sells them at the monthly meetings.

BREAKFAST CLUB

This is a casual, fun group, and everyone is welcome to drop in for coffee and a chat!

BRIDGE

Our Marathon bridge group is for players with a knowledge of the game who would like to play with a partner for the duration of the season. (Partners do not rotate.) The scores accumulate with prizegiving in May. We welcome all bridge players who would like to join us. We will try to match singles with a partner.

CANASTA (Pennies from Heaven)

Canasta (Pennies from Heaven Version) is a fun game that is not too difficult to master. Play is friendly and relaxed, and inexperienced or new players are welcome.

CUPS OF KINDNESS

Cups of Kindness is a charity initiative focused on those in need. Members may submit the names of their favorite charity. Periodically. a charity will be chosen randomly and given a $200 check to aid in their good work.

DISCOVER

Members of the Discover group go on outings to restaurants and attractions in the Nashville area.

EUCHRE

Euchre is a fast fun card game that is popular in the Midwest. This group welcomes new and experienced players.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Food for Thought meets to enjoy lunch followed by a discussion on a pre-selected topic involving current issues. Attendance is limited to twelve and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The group meets in members’ homes, with the hostess providing the main course and attendees providing the side dishes.

GOLF ENTHUSIASTS

The middle Tennessee area has several public and semi-public courses; a list is available in PDF format for your convenience.  Organized Golf at Franklin Bridge and Harpeth Hills runs from April through October.

“HAPPY BOOKERS” BOOK CLUB

The book club meets in members’ homes, and we read fiction, non-fiction, and a classic every year. Books are chosen by our members. New members are welcome.

HOME & GARDEN CLUB

The Home and Garden Club is a social group. We don’t actually garden.  Our activities include visits to local attractions and restaurants, and festive gatherings in members’ homes, often involving a craft or a theme.

MAH JONGG

Mah Jongg is a fun, social game. Our group is a mix of friendly, newer, and experienced players. We use the National Mah Jongg League rules with the new 2023 cards. Training / refresher sessions are offered periodically.  New members are most welcome. We meet at a local restaurant; play is paused to enjoy lunch.

MOVIE MADNESS

Do you love to go to movies, smell the popcorn, but would rather go with friends? Then, join Movie Madness! We usually attend one movie each month at the AMC Thoroughbred Theater in Cool Springs. Spouses and significant others are welcome. Movies are planned according to release dates and affordability.

MUSIC LOVERS

The Music Lovers group attends live music events. The Chair tries to select one event likely to appeal to a broad audience and one that she terms an “audiophile adventure”. We always carpool. Spouses, significant others, and friends are always welcome to join us.

NEEDLE ARTS

Whether you knit, crochet, embroider, or want to learn, this is the group for you. We’re really open to any type of crafting. We meet once a month at a Panera’s n Franklin. We’re a new group so we’re still trying out locations to find a favorite. If you are interested in learning, let us know in advance and we will bring what you need to get started.

ONE AND DONE

Are you interested in attending an event, class or do you want to go somewhere – but not alone? Join our “One and Done” group and find members who want to go with you.

OUT TO LUNCH

Out to Lunch meets for lunch at different restaurants in the area.

PAPER CRAFTS & MORE

This group is more of a workshop with a different project offered every month. The leaders will purchase the necessary supplies so there will be a fee. Participation will be limited to 12 participants due to limited seating and table space.

SMALL PLATE SOCIAL

This group has a luncheon gathering intended to introduce our newer members to others in our Club. A light, potluck-style lunch will be shared with the hostess providing the entrée and coordinating the menu.

WINE AND DINE

Wine and Dine is a group that gathers at different area restaurants once per month for dinner.
